Red Bull heir, Mark Mateschitz , is one of the youngest billionaires in the world and the richest millennial in all of Europe. The young man, 31, has received only this month a dividend of 582 million euros as the first payment since he inherited the Austrian energy drink empire after his father, Dietrich Mateschitz, died in October 2022.
Red Bull distributed half of last year's €1.56 billion profits to shareholders and paid Mark Mateschitz, who owns 49% of the company, a total of €582 million. Thailand's Yoovidhya family owns 51 % remaining. Last year the Austrian drinks giant sold a total of 11.6 billion cans of Red Bull and recorded revenue of 9.835 million euros.
Since his father died at the age of 78, Mateschitz's net worth is approximately €32 billion, placing him at number 35 on Forbes' real-time billionaires list . His father founded Red Bull in 1987, together with the late Thai businessman Chaleo Yoovidhya , who died in 2012 and was succeeded by his son, Chalerm, who owns 51% of the company. Together they made the energy drink company sponsor football, Formula 1 races and sports such as skateboarding and snowboarding.
Mark studied Business Administration and Management and, before his father died, he already held positions of responsibility in the company. However, after inheriting the empire he resigned from the organic beverage division and management of his father's other businesses to focus entirely on his role as a shareholder.
The secret of Red Bull's success lies in its history. After a long and exhausting trip to Thailand, founder Dietrich Mateschitz asked a Bangkok hotel bar for a drink to help him combat the fatigue caused by jet lag . Then they served him a glass of Krating Daeng, a local drink used by truck drivers to stay awake on their long journeys. After trying this curious concoction, Mateschitz was fascinated by the sudden well-being that he felt in his body in a miraculous way. From then on he decided to partner with the creator of that drink, the Thai Chaleo Yoovidhya, and together they created their own drink to increase physical resistance, the ability to concentrate and react, to provide more energy and improve mood. With their slogan “ Red Bull gives you wings” , the entrepreneurs tried to convey to consumers the idea that anyone who tried it would want to succeed and achieve success.
