(Reuters) - US pop singer Prince, 57, was found unconscious Thursday at his home in Minnesota and then declared dead, local media reported.
An official from the local sheriff's office would not confirm the identity of a person found dead on the property of the singer and Reuters was unable to establish the veracity of the information.
The web page on the lives of famous TMZ, citing sources close to the pop star, was the first to report on the singer's death on property at Paisley Park, Minnesota. Depues, the Associated Press quoted his agent confirming the information.
Singer representatives did not immediately respond to Reuters to make statements.
Prince, an innovative singer and songwriter whose music combines jazz, funk and disco, recorded hits like "Purple Rain", "Kiss" and "Raspberry Beret".
