ABBA music fused with flamenco, the new proposal that premieres in Madrid

Classics from the Swedish group ABBA such as 'Waterloo', 'Chiquitita' or 'Mamma Mía' fused with flamenco, that is the new and attractive proposal that will soon premiere at the Teatro la Latina, one of the most important comedy and magazine stages in Madrid.

'ABBA Flamenco Tribute' premieres next Tuesday the 19th, with a choreography in which tarantos, tangos, bulerías, jaleos or alegrías, 'palos' or varieties are mixed, all of them of this popular musical art form from the south of Spain.

The dancer and choreographer Antonio Guerra grew up listening to ABBA songs and, after collaborating in shows in which their songs were performed - his daughter also participates in a musical about this group -, he confesses that the creations of this quartet seemed to haunt him and he thought about a fusion for tangos.

Upon seeing the good result, they continued the process. "We brought ABBA more towards flamenco than we did towards ABBA; joys, jaleo, rumba or abandonment have arisen and what has been left is a very curious product," says the creator and director of the production in an interview with EFE in the middle of the last essays.

Bold and respectful proposal

Guerra admits the "daring" nature of his proposal: "No one has any idea (of the result)," but when they see it "they are pleasantly surprised." He adds that it is made "with a lot of respect", with "versions of songs that will surprise anyone who understands flamenco, while ABBA fans will say 'how is that possible?'".

And he points out: "I don't think anyone will feel offended, not the flamencos, not the ABBA fans."

Guardiola: "It seems like a tradition to face the kings of the Champions League"

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, assured that "it is already a tradition" that they face the "king" of the Champions League, after the draw for the quarterfinals has paired them with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid and Manchester City will meet for the third consecutive season in the Champions League. The 'Sky Blues' eliminated the whites last season en route to their first title in the top continental competition.

"It seems like it's a tradition now. Three years in a row playing against the kings of the competition. I hope we can arrive at a good time because there are still several weeks left until the first match in Madrid," Guardiola said this Friday at a press conference.

Regarding the advantage of playing the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola pointed out that the draw cannot be controlled and that when people say that the draw has been easy or not it is because "they underestimate the rival."

A stop of 10.6 million euros

How much does a stop cost? Without the stretch of Jan Oblak, suspended in the air to clear Davy Klaassen's third shot for Inter with both hands among the apotheosis of the Cívitas Metropolitano stadium, Atlético de Madrid might not have reached the 10.6 million euros of the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

It is the reward for the red and white team's advancement among the eight best in Europe, the place to which the Slovenian goalkeeper led them. He first denied Alexis Sánchez the goal on the Italian team's second shot, the third of the shootout. Then, after Saúl Ñíguez failed in the next one, he flew in an extraordinary way to stop the maximum penalty from the Dutchman Davy Klaassen, who entered the field in the 111th minute. Lautaro Martínez hit the ninth shot wide.

There was no need to take the tenth and final penalty against Atlético, the winner because Oblak had already directed them towards the precious prize of 10.6 million euros in the next round.

In the sum of this edition, at the same time, it shot up to 80,736 million euros of income in the maximum continental competition of 2023-24, in the absence of other variables.

It has already raised 15.64 million euros for participation in the group stage; the 11.2 of his four wins in that round; the 1,860 result of their two ties; the 9.6 for competing in the round of 16; and the 31,836 awarded by UEFA for their current position in the ranking of the last ten campaigns of the 32 current participants in the Champions League. He is the fifth. Only Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and City surpass it.

Suárez plays Messi, Cucho and Pulido score and Acosta works a miracle in the MLS

Without the Argentine Leo Messi, out due to a muscle problem that could keep him out of the FIFA date with Argentina, the Uruguayan Luis Suárez scored a double in Inter's comeback Miami against DC United, in an MLS matchday in which the Colombian Juan Camilo 'Cucho' Hernández and the Mexican Alan Pulido also scored.

Three days after qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League, Inter Miami triumphed against DC United despite Messi's absence. Suárez started as a substitute, but took the field after the restart and scored two goals in thirteen minutes, between the 72nd and 85th minutes.

But the Washington match was also marked by the statements of Argentine coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino about the conditions of Leo Messi, who suffered a muscle problem in the 'ConcaChampions' against Nashville and will not return before the break.

"The injury, beyond today's absence, must be managed week by week. We take advantage of the fact that we have full weeks and we will constantly evaluate it," Martino explained at a press conference after the match won in Washington against DC United.
