The bloody origins of International Women's Day
The origin of International Women's Day has its roots in the March 8, 1857, when hundreds of women in a textile factory in New York organized a march against low wages. In those years, the wages they received were lower in women more than half of what they perceived men and, in fact, they shared inhumane conditions in industrial jobs. The protest ended with police brutally dispersed the demonstrators from women and killing on the way to 120. Undaunted, the workers founded two years after their first union.
Since that historic March 8, today International Women's Day, the date became a recurring point for protests of women. In 1909, was held for the first time a national day of women , this being declared on February 28 by the Socialist Party USA The date was the setting for numerous protests under the slogan "Bread and Roses", in which the bread symbolizing economic security and roses quality of life.
The following year, at the Second International Conference of Socialist Women, meeting in Copenhagen, the demand for universal suffrage for all women reiterated and proposal of Clara Zetkin , was proclaimed on March 8 as International Women's Day . The proposal was approved unanimously by the conference, which had more than 100 women from 17 different countries, including the first three women elected to the Parliament of Finland were
Claiming a Women 's Day had its baptism of blood on March 25, 1911, also in New York. The shirt factory Triangle Shirtwaist burned at dawn with hundreds of women working within that ten - story building and could not escape the flames because the owners had blocked all access to prevent theft inside. The dramatic scene in the heart of Manhattan shocked public opinion and killed 146 women died. ABC described his readers of the time lived scenes as "horrific panic." Most of the victims were young immigrants , Jewish and Italian, who made their living precariously in the textile workshop of the firm.
A change in labor laws
The tragedy, which coincided with the usual protests unfolded year after year in March, it served to US laws began to collect improvements in safety at work in the industrial sector. The factory fire also parlayed salvo for the cause of women workers and labor internationalism in general worldwide. The union Women's Trade Union League and the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union organized many of the protests against this tragedy, among which highlighted the silent funeral procession, which drew a crowd of about 100,000 people.
A few years later, Russian women chose the last Sunday in February 1917 to call a strike under the slogan "Bread and Peace". Political leaders opposed his celebration on that day, but the women went ahead despite everything. The fall of the Czar and the arrival of a provisional government granted women the right to vote. They also had in mind March. That historic Sunday was 23 February according to the Julian calendar , which is then used in Russia; however, according to the Gregorian calendar used elsewhere it was 8 March.
It was not until 1977 that the United Nations become the day of March 8 ,the International Day for the Rights of Women and International Peace , "to commemorate the historic struggle to improve the lives of women".

As consultants, the new vice president will have the support of his advisers: Anna (Anna Chlumsky), team leader and confident woman, but very insecure; Gary (Tony Hale), Selina assistant; and Mike McClintock (Matt Walsh), his spokesman.
3. «Borgen»
Danish public television gave birth in 2010 political drama " Borgen " a production with the critically acclaimed "Forbydelsen (The Killing)" and "Bron / Broen (The Bridge)" has revolutionized the international television landscape. The series, which has three seasons that can see the subscribers to the package series Movistar + on the platform VoD Yomvi until next February 28, revolves around the world of high politics, the intricacies of power and means communication . Criticism places the Danish drama series at the same level as "The West Wing of the White House."In his argument, "Borgen" tells the story of charismatic political Birgitte Nyborg, after winning elections unexpectedly becomes the first woman to be appointed Prime Minister of Denmark.
Kevin Spacey ( "House of Cards"): "In politics we have what we deserve "
Staying at the White House is the obsession of Kevin Spacey or rather, Frank Underwood, his character in "House of Cards", whose fourth season premiered yesterday and today globally Netflix comes to Spain through Movistar + . (The platform issues today all chapters of the season, from 11.00, Canal + Series . After Yomvi can be seen). The drama starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright has helped to undermine the image of politicians in the world. In this new cycle will see the Machiavellian plans of the protagonist, which exhibits the personality of a criminal.
"The real politics only has in common with the series that both are unpredictable. The public does not know what will happen in fiction, nor who the next president. But we agree that in politics we have what we deserve. " It is not the first time that criticizes Spacey drama that has become the presidential race in the United States. In a meeting with executives of major companies held in Davos (Switzerland), he said Donald Trump reminded George Wallace, the segregationist governor of Alabama. " It is exactly the same campaign, the same" angry said.
At 56 years, the winner of an Oscar for "American Beauty" explains that although for the hearing Frank is a man of questionable morals, he does not judge. "I never criticise my characters; if I did I would be decrying as an actor. We are two different entities and I would not want that the public mistook Kevin Spacey with Frank Underwood. "
Production returns with a focus on the road for reelection Underwood, as well as the confrontation of the ambitious couple, who forged a marriage crisis through last season. Perhaps the future of the series rests with Robin Wright? The third season began with a damaged Doug Stamper ( Michael Kelly ) in hospital after being hit in the head by Rachel (Rachel Brosnahan). The tense relationship was formed between Frank and Claire took a surprising turn when the end of the season, she decided to leave the president.
Too smart?
By the same token, the fourth season will show how the relationship between them and what the future of this calculator marriage was.
"He has many enemies, but she knows it best and more damage can make. Their relationship live moments of change. It certainly is a marriage that has gone through hard times, but at the core of their relationship is a lasting love, affection and respect . One of the exciting things about working on this series is that each season we experience new things, peel the onion a little or add another layer. I know it has been criticized my character because it seems too smart . I do not see it. I think we'll see him dance differently now he is president and has all eyes on him?" Spacey admits.
Perhaps in the future, as in the political reality of the US, we see Claire fighting for the presidency. In Hollywood everything is possible.
