Kim Kardashian knows the criticism as it has been in the public eye over the last decade. But perhaps he never faced such negative publicity like this before: the Food and Drug Administration (FDA for its acronym in English) he said about Kardashian messages on social networks violate federal laws on drug promotion.
Kardashian recently began to promote a pill by prescription to treat nausea from pregnancy through their social networking accounts.
"I tried to change things in my lifestyle, as my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor," read one message. "He put me Diclegis , and I felt much better and most importantly I have reported and no risk to the baby. "
Kardashian has more than 42 million Instagram followers and 25 million Facebook. Their messages carried to the website of the company that has information approved by the FDA.
Kim is currently in the fifth month of her pregnancy. She is expecting a child with her husband Kanye West.
According to the FDA regulators their messages violate the rules of drug promotion because do not mention side effects of Diclegis, including drowsiness that could make it dangerous to drive or perform other activities that require alertness. Diclegis label warns that not be mixed with alcohol or other medications that cause dizziness, such as sleeping pills or certain painkillers.
FDA rules require manufacturers to balance the benefits with information about the risks of drugs, even if space is limited.
The messages do not mention that Diclegis is not approved for women with a type of prolonged vomiting cause dehydration , says the FDA.
The FDA published online Tuesday a warning to the director general of the Canadian drug manufacturer Duchesnay Inc., which manufactures medicine. The letter signed Aug. 7 states that the private company received a similar warning for failing risk information in a letter to doctors in 2013.
The agency asked the company to immediately remove the posts in social networks and to present a plan to prevent future violations for 21 August.
Duchesnay said in a statement that "undertake a prompt action before the FDA's letter and will address any issues promptly and effectively." The company is headquartered in Blainville, Quebec.
While the socialite's publicist did not respond to the request, the messages cited by the FDA no longer appear in the accounts of Kardashian.
