Top 10 most dangerous countries in the world to travel: four Latin Americans in the 'top ten'

Traveling, many people know, is an added value to the economic solvency, personal balance and spiritual satisfaction for which we work a good part of the year.

But the act of traveling is not without risks. Not a few destinations offer us exciting opportunities for adventure, but at the same time they hide rather precarious personal security conditions.

Kenya is valued for its unique safaris, Turkey is a highly valued cruise port, Nicaragua is made affordable by its favorable exchange of the dollar to Cordoba, Egypt and its pyramids have never ceased to be an attraction, and Colombia, for its climate, its nature, its beaches and its people have been turning into an attractive destination ..., however, they are not the safest for vacationers.

According to the Report on Travel and Competitive Tourism of the World Economic Forum for 2017, in these nations there are sporadic outbreaks of violence, often against tourists, while at other times it is simply that travelers are in the place and at the wrong time.

To establish a list of the most dangerous for leisure and business travelers among 136 countries, terrorist threats, crime rates, sexual assaults and robbery rates were also taken into account.

1. Colombia

In addition to the frequency with which demonstrations and protests take place, especially in Bogotá, the State Department has warned tourists to be much more careful, due to the increase in crime and terrorism.

Violent crimes such as homicides, assaults and armed robberies are common, while organized criminal activities such as extortion, robbery and kidnapping to obtain a ransom are widespread. For decades, this South American nation has been the scene of a bloody war between the government and the guerrillas.

2. Yemen

Due to military conflict, terrorism and civil unrest, it is recommended not to travel to Yemen. According to the State Department, rebel groups attack and detain US citizens who dare to travel to that country, where Al-Qaeda still remains active. In addition, landmines and air strikes are a common problem, as is the lack of basic services such as water and medicines.

3. El Salvador

In this country crime is at critical levels. Violence is unpredictable and victims are often simply the result of chance. Assault and gang activity are a major concern for those who visit their national parks. The security situation is so bad that the UN Peace Corps suspended its program in the country.

4. Pakistan

This Asian country has not stopped suffering shocking terrorist violence, including sectarian attacks. Foreign and domestic terrorist groups often resort to kidnapping to obtain a ransom. Religious conflict has been a problem for years. The deterioration of law and order in this nation also contributes to its low classification in terms of security.

5. Nigeria

Because of its high rates of crime, terrorism and piracy, the State Department discourages travel to Nigeria, a nation where armed robbery, assault, car theft, kidnapping and rape are common. In addition, armed terrorist groups have not abandoned their belligerent plans against civilian targets. To make matters worse, it is one of the worst places in the world to drive.

6. Venezuela

Due to its political instability, its economic crisis and the disarray of social controls, Venezuela has become a dangerous place to travel and enjoy. Violent crime is widespread, both in the capital, Caracas, and in the rest of the country. The shortage of food, water, medicines, electricity and other basic goods are at their ease, in which until a few years ago it was one of the richest countries in the continent.

Now the danger comes mainly from ISIS and other extremist groups, which pose a serious threat to public places throughout the country, including especially tourist areas. It is discouraged to travel to the Sinai Peninsula, to the western desert and to areas near the borders, susceptible to terrorist attacks.

8. Kenya

Although this African country is on the list of almost all adventure-loving travelers, the travel notice for Kenya is in Level 2, which advises a lot of caution, according to the State Department. The threat of terrorist attacks is high in Nairobi, the capital, even though many other locations outside this city are also attacked. Armed attacks, assault, invasion of homes and kidnapping can occur at any time.

9. Honduras

In one of the countries with one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Armed robbery is common, as is gang activity, extortion, violent street crime, rape and human trafficking. 10. Ukraine

This European nation is the scene of armed struggles between national forces and pro-Russian separatists, especially in Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea. The attack on property and tourism is very common, and violence is even produced for racial reasons.
