'The Good Dinosaur' was to be a western with an adult dinosaur and curiosities

If with 'Inside Out 'was not enough, fans of Pixar are in luck because the studio premieres 'The Good Dinosaur' (the first launch two productions in one year), a commitment-laden adventure and tenderness changes fate of dinosaurs based on the idea that never died.

With this initial premise, the story centers on Arlo, a little fearful apatosaurus who must live the adventure of a lifetime on his way back home with the help of a caveman child, who form a friendship in the style of a boy and his pet, but reversing the roles. Peter Sohn directs this production was unchanged in the story and characters to the point that is very different from what they had in mind. For example: it would be a western. So we confessed his head during the promotional tour for the film before its release.

The project (which opens in Spain as 'Arlo's journey' and 'A great dinosaur' in Latin) was born in 2009 under the leadership of Bob Peterson after the success of his directorial debut with ' Up '. The idea was based on the relationship between a boy and his dog, but in reverse, with dinosaurs as protagonists of history. But after several years developing, Peterson could not tie up loose ends of his idea and so, its co-director and friend, Peter Sohn took over. It had been four years and Peter was less than two to bring up a movie with previously announced release date when Pixar productions take an average of five years of work. He had to do it faster than any other house production restarting story altogether.

"Arlo adult was at first," he confesses. "It was a young adult about twenty years but still immature. When I joined the project we changed it to a child because it was important to understand the passage to maturity and character growth. We restart the whole project completely two years ago and although we kept the original concept of Bob, redesigned whole world and its characters " he added as we talked surrounded by fossils in the Natural History Museum.

But that is not all. Early in the project, "it was a parody of a western sheriff and the typical living room but after four meetings with the team, history alone was telling us the right path to follow," we explained Peter. "We draw the film as twenty times" added producer Denise Ream.

At the beginning of the film we meet Arlo, a small dinosaur that lived happily with his family on a farm despite their fear of the unknown. After an accident, Arlo is lost and must make his way back home overcoming their own fears. And although the character Arlo has a design "cartoon" nature and scenery surrounding it are the most realistic we have seen so far in the animation genre. "Wyoming was the place that most influenced scenarios "Peter confessed us. "Curiously, it is an area where many dinosaur fossils were found. Of all the difficulties, the water was the most difficult to recreate to the point that at one point we thought we were not going to be able to create the amount we wanted.

" But precisely one of the characteristics that attract attention is the contrast between the realism of the scenarios and the animated design of the main character , something that Peter explains that it was on purpose. "When we studied the nature we would include in the film, we discovered that while it may be beautiful can also be dangerous, and we wonder how we could reflect on the story. At first designs of nature were more style cartoons but did not reflect the danger that lurks in it. So we began to look more realistically at the world around Arlo, "he explained. "In the design of Arlo, initially we had more realistic concepts but we wanted the audience to feel he was a child in danger in the midst of nature. We made big eyes to reflect their fear and people feel with him; if a realistic dinosaur had not caused the same feelings. " image

And indeed, 'The Good Dinosaur' has much of adventure and tenderness, a detail that personal branding statement of Peter who has worked as an artist in films that have caused our tears as 'Up', 'Wall-E' or 'Finding Nemo' , besides its beautiful short film in 2009, 'Rain' . After years of work comes the time of the premiere of ' The Good Dinosaur ', although the enthusiasm his director can not help but feel the added pressure after the success of 'Inside Out' this year. "A little pressure yes there is, but we've been so busy that we could not think. Now we just hope that people like it and connect with the film, "while producer Denise Ream concludes, "We hope to do well because we want to keep making movies. And I honestly do not want to be the first Pixar film that does not work at the box office. "
